GOT A COUCH? — Bringing Human Connection Back to Travel

Travel Was Never Meant to Be Just About Finding a Place to Sleep
There was a time when traveling meant much more than booking a room, checking in, taking a few pictures, and moving on to the next destination.
It meant meeting people.
Sharing stories around a table. Discovering a city through the eyes of someone who actually lives there. Being welcomed into a home as a stranger and sometimes leaving as a friend.
That simple idea is at the heart of GOT A COUCH?
We are building a worldwide travel community for people who believe that the most memorable part of a journey is often not the place itself — but the people we meet along the way.
People. Places. Real Connections.
What Is GOT A COUCH?
GOT A COUCH? is a global community connecting travelers, hosts and local people around the world.
The principle is simple.
You may have a couch, a spare bed, a guest room or simply some time to show a traveler around your city.
Someone else may be traveling thousands of kilometers from home and looking for something that cannot be found in a traditional travel guide: a genuine local connection.
GOT A COUCH? brings those people together.
Members can create profiles, introduce themselves, discover people in different destinations, connect with locals and build relationships based on hospitality, cultural exchange and mutual respect.
Hosting does not have to be complicated.
You do not need a luxury home.
You do not need to live in a famous tourist destination.
Sometimes, all it takes is a couch and the desire to welcome someone.
Free Hospitality Should Still Have a Place in Modern Travel
Travel has changed enormously.
Technology has made it easier to reach almost anywhere in the world, but many travel experiences have also become increasingly commercial.
We believe there should still be room for another kind of travel.
A traveler can meet a local person without every interaction becoming a transaction.
A host can welcome someone simply because they enjoy meeting people from other cultures.
Two people from completely different parts of the world can share dinner, exchange stories, discover another way of life and perhaps remain friends long after the journey ends.
That is why free hospitality is an important part of GOT A COUCH?
Members who genuinely want to host travelers without charging them can do so.
The idea is not to turn every couch into a product.
The idea is to create opportunities for people to meet.
A Community Built Around People, Not Rooms
A home is important, but the person opening the door matters even more.
GOT A COUCH? is therefore not simply a directory of available couches.
It is a community of people.
Imagine arriving in Marrakech and meeting someone who shows you the neighborhood where they grew up.
Imagine visiting Paris and spending an evening discussing music and life with your host.
Imagine traveling through Canada and discovering a small town you would never have considered visiting.
Or imagine welcoming someone from Brazil, Japan, Morocco, France, Mexico or Australia into your own home and discovering another culture without leaving your city.
These experiences cannot easily be measured by the price of a room.
Their value comes from human connection.
Hosts Are the Heart of GOT A COUCH?
Without hosts, there is no hospitality community.
That is why we want hosts to be much more than accommodation providers.
A host can become part of a traveler's story.
You might offer:
a couch for one night;
a spare bedroom;
a place to sleep for a few days;
a meal;
a walk around your neighborhood;
local advice;
a coffee and conversation;
or simply your time.
You decide what you are comfortable offering.
There is no requirement to live in a perfect home or provide a hotel-like experience.
Authenticity matters more than luxury.
A simple couch offered with genuine hospitality can create a stronger memory than an expensive hotel room.
Travelers Are Participants, Not Customers
We also want to encourage a different mindset among travelers.
When someone welcomes you into their home, you are not entering a hotel.
You are entering another person's world.
Respect their home, their time, their culture and their boundaries.
Bring curiosity.
Share something about yourself.
Help when appropriate.
Have conversations.
And when you return home, consider opening your own door to another traveler.
This is how a hospitality community grows.
Today you may be the traveler. Tomorrow you may become the host.
We Are Building This Community With the World
GOT A COUCH? is still growing, and we believe this is one of the most exciting moments to join.
Instead of arriving after everything has already been decided, early members can help shape the culture of the community.
We are looking for people across Europe, Africa, North America, South America, Asia, Oceania and beyond.
Large cities.
Small towns.
Islands.
Villages.
University communities.
Remote destinations.
Places visited by millions of tourists and places most travelers have never heard of.
If people live there, human connections can happen there.
We Are Looking for Volunteers Around the World
A truly international community should not be built from one office or one country.
It should be built by its members.
That is why GOT A COUCH? welcomes volunteers from around the world who would like to participate in the development of the community.
You might help introduce GOT A COUCH? in your city.
You might welcome new members.
You might help organize local meetups.
You might share ideas about how travelers and hosts interact in your country.
You might help us understand local cultures and expectations.
You might become one of the people who helps establish the community in a new city or country.
You do not need to be a travel professional.
You do not need thousands of social media followers.
You do not need to be an influencer.
What matters is believing that travel can bring people closer together.
From Local Communities to a Global Network
Our ambition is global, but communities are always local.
A worldwide network is created one city at a time.
One host in Marrakech.
Another in Montreal.
Another in Paris.
Another in New York.
Then Madrid, Lisbon, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Istanbul, Cape Town, Tokyo, Bangkok, Sydney and thousands of other places.
Every new member makes another connection possible.
Every new host creates another reason for a traveler to visit a destination differently.
Every volunteer can help a local community grow.
And every positive encounter strengthens the network for everyone.
Trust Must Come First
Opening your home to someone — or staying in another person's home — requires trust.
GOT A COUCH? is being developed around that reality.
Member profiles, identity and contact verification, community interactions and reputation mechanisms are intended to help people make informed decisions about who they communicate with and meet.
But technology alone cannot create trust.
Members themselves are responsible for communicating clearly, respecting boundaries and making sensible decisions before meeting someone or accepting a stay.
A strong community requires both good tools and responsible people.
More Than Accommodation
You may join GOT A COUCH? because you need somewhere to stay.
But we hope you remain because of the people you meet.
The long-term vision goes beyond accommodation.
We want travelers to be able to discover locals, hosts, guides, community activities and authentic experiences connected to the places they visit.
Someone visiting a city should be able to ask:
Who can I meet here?
Not only:
Where can I sleep?
That small difference changes the entire philosophy of travel.
Why Join Now?
Because communities are shaped by the people who arrive first.
Joining an established network means participating in something that already exists.
Joining GOT A COUCH? today means helping build what it can become tomorrow.
Your profile could be among the first in your city.
You could welcome some of the community's first travelers.
You could help establish GOT A COUCH? in your country.
You could introduce friends who later become hosts themselves.
Years from now, we want early members to be able to look at a worldwide community and say:
“I was there when it was just beginning.”
Have a Couch? Open Your Door.
If you have a couch, a spare room or a little extra space, you already have something valuable to offer.
Not because of the furniture.
Because of what can happen around it.
A conversation.
A friendship.
A cultural exchange.
A shared meal.
A new destination.
A story that two people might remember for the rest of their lives.
And if you cannot host, you can still participate.
Meet travelers.
Share local knowledge.
Help your community.
Volunteer.
Invite friends.
Tell people about the project.
There are many ways to open a door.
The World Is Full of Strangers Who Haven't Met Yet
We live in an age where it has never been easier to communicate with someone on the other side of the planet.
And yet genuine human connection can sometimes feel increasingly difficult to find.
Travel gives us an opportunity to change that.
To sit at the same table.
To listen.
To learn.
To discover that someone who grew up thousands of kilometers away may have much more in common with us than we imagined.
That is the world we want GOT A COUCH? to help create.
Not a world where every interaction has a price.
A world where hospitality still means something.
Where travelers can become friends.
Where locals can become guides to their own cultures.
Where a simple couch can connect two lives that otherwise might never have crossed.
We are only at the beginning.
And we are looking for hosts, travelers, local communities and volunteers from every corner of the world to build the next chapter with us.
If you believe travel should be about more than destinations, you already understand what we are trying to create.
Join GOT A COUCH?
Create your profile.
Welcome someone.
Meet someone.
Represent your city.
Help build your local community.
And invite the world in.
GOT A COUCH?
People. Places. Real Connections.
One couch. One traveler. One connection at a time.
